Dr. Bernitsky has been doing LASIK surgery for eight years and he has performed over 7,000 LASIK procedures.

Dr. Bernitsky has been doing refractive surgery since 1985. He worked with one of the original investigators in the PERK study looking at RK in the mid-80's. He's been involved at every step in the evolution of vision corrective surgery, including participating in FDA trials for LASIK surgery with the NIDEK^® laser before LASIK was approved in the U.S.

Dr. Bernitsky is fellowship trained in Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery from the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to being certified on the NIDEK^® and VISX^® lasers, Dr. Bernitsky is the first New Mexico physician to offer the Intralase laser to his patients.

Dr. Bernitsky prides himself on the personal service he provides his patients. He makes every effort to get to know each patient individually, to understand their goals and expectations for LASIK surgery, and help each patient make the decision that's best for them. He always practices safe medicine and he will tell a patient if he feels they are not a good candidate for LASIK surgery FOR ANY REASON. Although Dr. Bernitsky is as current and up-to-date as any LASIK surgeon, he generally doesn't 'push the envelope'. He wants to be sure new procedures have a good track record before offering patients something new.
