Dr. Bonner provides full service ophthalmology utilizing the latest technology. He is certified on the Visx Excimer Laser. In addition, he performs laser treatments, cataract, glaucoma, plastic and other surgical procedures. He has hospital privileges at Itasca Medical in Grand Rapids, Deer River HealthCare Center, Northern Itasca Health Care Center in Bigfork, Granditasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids and Fairview University Medical Center - Mesabi in Hibbing. Following internship at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Dr. Bonner completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bonner is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bonner has been very involved with Itasca Medical Center over the years. He currently serves on the hospital board, and was chairman of the hospital board in 1999-2000. In the past he has served as Chief of Staff at Itasca Medical Center, is a former president of the Range Medical Society, and has served as clinical assistant professor at the University of Minnesota - Duluth School of Medicine. Dr. Bonner joined his father's ophthalmology practice in 1987 and became sole owner of Bonner Eye Clinic, Ltd. in 1990 upon the retirement of his father. Dr. Chris Buntrock joined the practice in 1994 and became a partner in 1995. In 1999 Bonner & Buntrock Eye clinic opened a satellite office in Hibbing. Dr. Bonner has performed over 5,000 refractive procedures including cataract surgery, photorefractive keratectomy and LASIK.
The Bonner Clinic uses two lasers for laser vision correction. The first is the VISX STAR S4 ActiveTrak^™ Excimer Laser System. This laser incorporates eye tracking so that it is able to follow the small movements of the eye during treatment. This is especially helpful for patients who move their head and body around too much. The second laser used in our office is the LaserSight LSX^® Flying Spot Excimer Laser. This laser uses a 0.8mm flying spot beam of light to offer precise and smooth tissue removal. Both excimer lasers emit a "cool" or non-thermal light beam - this minimizes the possibility of thermal changes to surrounding tissue. We will discuss the advantages of each laser with you during your consultation.
