The Lasers

The data given here was based entirely on surgeries using the Summit Apex Plus and we continue to use this laser. Dr. Epstein is also certified on the Visx star series (such as the S3) and on the Nidek EC 5000.

Dr. Epstein is certified to treat the full range of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism treatable with excimer, typically from -13D to +6D. Dr. Epstein also performs other surgeries such as phakic intraocular lens implantation and the related presbyopic lens exchange (PRELEX) procedure, as well as Intacs for extreme cases.

New LASIK Technology -- Summit

Summit Apex Plus

Summit Technology is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of ophthalmic laser systems designed to correct common vision disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. In 1995, Summit was the first excimer laser company to receive FDA approval for its Apex excimer laser system for the correction of mild to moderate myopia in the U.S.

Patients undergo a safe, fast, simple procedure using proven technology. Based on results to date, they can expect excellent vision correction and unparalleled satisfaction.

New LASIK Technology -- VISX

VISX

VISX pioneered the development of excimer laser systems and remains the industry leader in quality and innovation.

VISX laser systems produce the smoothest surface on the cornea after the procedure. Smoother ablations, as they're known, promote faster healing and result in better vision.

VISX laser systems achieve an optical zone that may result in reduced problems with night vision.

VISX laser systems require a shorter procedure time, which may reduce the risk of postoperative complications.

New LASIK Technology -- NIDEK

Nidek, Co. Ltd.

Nidek Co. Ltd. (Japan) has been awarded ISO9001 Quality Systems Model in design, development, production and customer service.

Nidek's segmental ablation system allows precise ablation of specific areas on the cornea to correct higher-order aberrations detected by the OPD-ScanTM which cannot be corrected by glasses or normal refractive surgery.

3D motorized control stick along with improved illumination and aiming beams provide precise control of laser beam delivery arm.

INTACSTM

Intacs corneal ring segments are the revolutionary way to correct mild nearsightedness – without having to undergo laser surgery. They provide an alternative to eyeglasses, contact lenses and surgical procedures that permanently alter the eye by cutting or removing tissue from the central cornea.

Intacs are a safe and effective means to correcting mild nearsightedness and they offer an immediate improvement in vision.

Intacs are currently available for people with mild myopia (nearsightedness) who have no more than 1.00 diopter of astigmatism. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for the procedure is to
contact us to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Epstein to have your vision evaluated.

Continuous ImprovementTM

Logging of thousands of LASIK surgeries Dr. Epstein has performed since 1991 are the basis of the programming of the excimer (the "nomogram"). Dr. Epstein, who is also an electrical engineer, has set up the evaluation of many factors as the basis of a statistical analysis of past surgeries. Because the settings must be kept current, the programming is based on statistical analysis of generally the 2000 most recent LASIK cases Dr. Epstein has performed.
