Advantages of Laser Vision Correction at LaserVue

Experience/Training:
Jay Bansal, MD and Swati Singh, MD are Board-Certified Ophthalmologists with sub-specialty fellowship training in laser vision correction (Refractive Surgery) and have each performed many thousands of LASIK procedures. Dr. Bansal and Dr. Singh have both been named VISX Star Surgeons – awarded to the top 100 laser vision specialists by VISX Inc. and have taught the latest techniques in refractive surgery to other eye surgeons. A frequently requested surgical nomogram was developed at LaserVue as well as several LASIK surgical instruments. Despite the best education, there is no substitute for experience and individualized care. Each laser eye surgeon at LaserVue will be happy to answer your specific questions personally. Please ask us!

Safety:
At LaserVue Medical Associates, dedicated laser eye surgeons and specialized staff are committed to your safety and outcome. We believe that not everyone is a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery. When it comes to your eyes, being discriminating is appropriate. Only careful examination of your eyes and your individual case/needs will determine whether LASIK is right for you. We welcome your questions and concerns about laser vision correction and wish to answer each question to your satisfaction. Some additional LaserVue safety precautions are listed below for your knowledge and comfort:

  • State-of-the art diagnostic equipment including Wave Front technology for custom vision correction
  • Corneal measurements (3-dimensional corneal topography and corneal thickness) to identify irregularities that may eliminate patients as candidates for laser vision correction
  • Pupil measurement to assess risk for glare and halos
  • Visx Star S4 laser with 3-Dimensional eye tracking and auto-centering utilized exclusively (S4 is the only FDA approved laser with auto-centering - the laser treatment is centered upon the eye’s pupil via computer guided infrared cameras versus manually in every other laser system)
  • One-piece microkeratome (instrument that creates corneal flap) with a fixed corneal depth plate – no assembly or coupling of microkeratome parts by the surgeon during the actual procedure to reduce potential for flap complications or human error
  • Laser & Microkeratome maintained and serviced exclusively by the original manufacturers to FDA approved specifications
  • Laser fluence checked prior to treatment of each patient
  • Staff & suite dedicated to laser vision correction procedures
  • Sterile surgical protocol
  • Patients sterile prepped with Betadine prior to surgery and treated with antibiotic eye drops pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively to reduce any potential for infection – LaserVue provides all routine antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications
  • We take the time to educate you on the risks and benefits of LASIK surgery, alternate treatment options, and to answer your questions
  • We reject patients who we determine to be poor candidates for LASIK surgery
  • We are very proud of our surgical protocol, surgical techniques, and state-of-the-art technology. Our procedures are televised LIVE via a closed-circuit television monitor. We encourage patients, their family/friends and any eye care professional to come view our specialists perform laser vision correction and to ask questions

Technology:
Be aware of the new laser technology available to you. Most of the lasers do a fine job and the biggest factor in the surgical outcome is the surgical team's actual surgical skill. But there are significant differences in the lasers that one should not overlook. Some lasers give a smoother corneal surface and have an eye-tracking device that better guarantees that the laser treatment is properly centered and focused, and some lasers do not. The LASIK specialists at LaserVue have chosen the newest generation Visx Star S4 (there are some Visx lasers that do not have an eye-tracker) excimer laser exclusively with which to perform laser vision correction. The Visx Star S4 laser features 3-Dimensional eye tracking and auto-centering (S4 is the only FDA approved laser with auto-centering: the laser treatment is centered upon the eye’s pupil via computer guided infrared cameras versus manually in every other laser system). We are proud to have received the first S4 laser in United States. This laser is permanently placed at each of our laser centers. We feel strongly that it is the finest excimer laser technology available for our patients today. Additionally, WavePrint technology is available at LaserVue for custom LASIK.

Attention to Detail:
There are some subtle clues to the quality of care and the attention to detail of a laser eye surgery center. For example, studies have long shown that contact lenses can change the shape of the cornea. LaserVue doctors suggest keeping soft lenses out for three to seven days and gas permeable lenses out for three to four weeks. Keeping lenses out for a shorter time may sound more convenient, but accuracy may suffer.

The laser eye surgeons at LaserVue monitor their results very closely and then alter surgical planning based on past outcomes and have thus developed a surgical nomogram frequently requested by other surgeons. The patient's actual prescription is not entered into the laser's computer, but an adjusted prescription is used based on our tested surgical nomogram.

Another extremely important clue to quality care is how carefully the laser eye surgeon evaluates your eyes prior to surgery. Some laser centers and surgeons with organized networks of referring Optometrists use a system where the surgeon NEVER sees the patient preoperatively and the laser center/surgeon pays the referring optometrist. Skillful surgery is only just one of the responsibilities of the surgeon. Look for a laser eye surgeon that will examine you before surgery, evaluate the findings, discuss with you the plan of action for your particular case and answer all of your questions to your satisfaction. Other technicians and doctors may be involved in your care as well, but there is no substitute for the in depth knowledge and experience of the surgeon for your care.

Confidence:
We want you to watch our laser eye surgeons operate via a closed-circuit monitor, ask questions, and talk to our previous laser eye surgery patients.

Enhancement Rate:
It's nice that LASIK can be repeated if there is a significant prescription left behind that causes some blurred vision, but it is also nice if a laser eye surgeon has at least an average enhancement rate (national average about 8 -10%) or better. Ask us for the enhancement rate of our laser eye surgeons (the percent of time the LASIK surgery needs to be repeated to eliminate a lingering significant prescription).

LASIK surgery is an extremely safe procedure when performed by a well-trained and skilled LASIK surgeon. The accuracy of LASIK is also astoundingly excellent. What you want to look for is a masterful surgical team that will make your LASIK experience seem like a few effortless minutes resulting in clear vision. Many may claim that they are as such, but now you have the tools to better research who actually is. So find a great LASIK surgeon and facility, relax and enjoy your LASIK experience!

Important Intangibles:

  1. At LaserVue, you'll quickly learn to appreciate the friendliness and warmth of our staff.
  2. The cozy and relaxing environment (especially during surgery) at LaserVue is quite comforting. Very high tech? Yes. Cold and impersonal? No.
  3. At LaserVue, we believe that good patient education minimizes unrealistic goals and fears. During the preoperative exam we will answer all of your questions to your satisfaction.
  4. At LaserVue Medical Associates, there will be no confusion as to who will provide your treatment and care.

Our goal is not to perform the most laser vision correction procedures. Our doctors are very careful in deciding which potential patients are good candidates for laser vision correction, and they educate each patient about the expected outcome and inherent risks associated with laser vision correction.

Fees:
At LaserVue, we offer a global comprehensive laser vision correction fee, which includes all pre-operative, surgical and post-operative care for one year including all routine post-operative medications. We believe our patients deserve and expect the finest care. There are no shortcuts to great results. Our fees do not change by the prescription, by the laser technology, by the amount of care needed, or by the surgeon. Nor do we endorse misleading price advertising that changes with the prescription, surgeon, and/or laser. Also, rest assured that none of our many referring doctors have any financial investment/interest in LaserVue.

We believe that once you have compared our Experience, Safety, and Technology - you will choose LaserVue Laser Vision Correction for your eyes. With several laser vision correction financing options available, it is also very affordable.
