When purchasing equipment for his new facility, Dr. Pankratz could have chosen any laser. Not all lasers are created equally. The VISX excimer laser is the leader in the industry, and in Dr. Pankratz's opinion, the finest laser available. It is the laser trusted by more LASIK surgeons in the U.S. than any other. VISX offers continuous upgrades for its systems and this program allows Dr. Pankratz to have constant access to the newest and best technology on a laser that is housed permanently in our specially designed laser vision correction suite.
In fact, the Pankratz Eye Institute upgraded to the VISX Star S4 with ActiveTrakTM in September of 2002. This upgrade incorporates a sophisticated, infrared, 3D-tracker, which allows the laser to track the patient's eye movements with extreme accuracy. This technology also allows for better concentration of the treatment, which reduces the chance of night vision problems afterwards. Concurrently with the most recent technology upgrade to the laser, new technology was purchased that will allow for customization of treatments.
This technology called WaveScan allows us to determine if the patient should be treated using today's methods or if the patient should consider waiting for FDA approval of custom treatments. These custom treatments, though likely more expensive, will allow persons who might be dissatisfied with current technology results to know that they should wait, while the majority of patients can proceed today with confidence. We are one of only a few practices in the state of Indiana who have this most advanced technology.

The Pankratz Eye Institute is the only facility in Columbus and surrounding counties with an on-site excimer laser and laser vision correction suite. No one wants to fight the traffic in Indianapolis, Louisville, or Cincinnati, and most patients don't realize that between the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative visits, there might be up to seven trips to and from these areas in the first year. Dr. Pankratz is always available and easy to reach for patients who have concerns after their procedure. We also offer weeknight and weekend hours for your added convenience, and surgeries on Fridays to allow you to recuperate over the weekend.
