Dr. Parent uses the Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 Excimer Laser to perform LASIK. In the FDA approval study, this laser had the highest percentage of patients achieving 20/20 or better vision without glasses or contact lenses compared with all other FDA approved excimer lasers. Dr. Parent also has observed less night vision complaints following LASIK with the Bausch & Lomb Technolas Excimer Laser. Dr.
Parent also offers PRELEX,
or "PREsbyopic Exchange." This is particularly attractive procedure
for those who are farsighted or wearing bifocals or trifocals. This allows
the patient to see clearly in the distance and reduces the need for reading
glasses. PRELEX gives the patient the opportunity to
have relatively good vision at nearly every distance, making the surgery
one of the most rapidly growing forms of refractive surgery. The Fort Wayne Ophthalmic Surgical Center is the first center in the area to offer Bausch & Lomb's Orbscan II corneal diagnostic system. The Orbscan II takes thousands of corneal thickness measurements compared with the traditional pachymetry performed at most centers, which only measure the anterior surface. The Orbscan II allows diagnosis of subtle corneal diseases which may not be evident with older topographical and pachymetry testing. Early corneal disease, such as keratoconus, can have severe consequences in vision if not detected and LASIK is performed.
