LASIK uses the laser to reshape the surface
of your eye to reduce or eliminate your dependency on glasses
or contact lenses. LASIK is FDA approved for myopia (nearsightedness),
hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The procedure
has achieved worldwide acceptance and the odds are you know
someone who has had it done and loves their new vision without
glasses or contact. Dr. Shuler has personally performed Laser
Vision on his wife Casey who now 4 years later still has better
than 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts. Recently, Empireís
own Joe Chang, M.D. and his wife Kathy have both had LASIK
and also have better than 20/20 vision. LASIK is the procedure
eye doctors are having done on their own eyes. Dr. Shuler
was one of the first surgeons in Kern County to perform the
LASIK procedure. He is certified to use both VISX and Summit
lasers. He achieved certification from the Jules Stein Eye
Institute, UCLA School of Medicine where Dr. Shuler is an
Associate Clinical Professor and teaches ophthalmic surgery
to the doctors at UCLA. Dr. Chang, who also trained at the
Jules Stein Eye Institute, also performs the LASIK procedure.
LASIK takes about 20 minutes for both eyes and you usually
have good enough vision to drive the next day without glasses
or contacts. Dr. Shuler is also the first surgeon in Kern
County to become certified to perform LTK, the 3 second treatment
for farsightedness, and implant the new Array multifocal lens
to help people see far away and up close both.
