Richard S. Witlin, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been one of the pioneers in refractive surgery in the New Jersey area since 1981. In 1981, Dr. Witlin performed the first radial keratotomy procedure in central New Jersey. Following the FDA approval of excimer laser vision surgery in 1996, Dr. Witlin became actively involved in performing both photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and LASIK surgery.

He is one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the New Jersey area, having performed over 5,000 LASIK surgeries since 1997. The surgical results have been outstanding, with over 98% of his patients achieving 20/20 or better visual acuities.

Dr. Witlin is honest with patients concerning the results they should expect from refractive surgery. He uses two lasers so that he can customize their care and give them the best results possible.

Dr. Witlin's confidence in the success of excimer laser surgery was borne out by his personal decision to have LASIK surgery performed on himself. On January 10, 1997 he underwent bilateral LASIK surgery. He had an excellent surgical result and has not worn corrective lenses at all since his surgery. He can provide a unique personal insight to his patients on what it is like to be a leading refractive surgeon, as well as a successful laser vision correction patient.

Dr. Witlin entered clinical practice in New Jersey in 1979 and became a partner in Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A., in Freehold, N.J. In 1989, he became the medical director and chief surgeon for Omni Eye Services, a specialty ophthalmic referral practice for the advanced treatment of eye diseases. In 1998, he established his own private practice, THE WITLIN CENTER FOR ADVANCED EYE CARE, dedicated to the performance of refractive eye surgery and small incision, sutureless cataract microsurgery. Dr. Witlin has performed a total of over 15,000 cataract surgeries.

Dr. Witlin has received numerous awards for academic and professional achievements. He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons; and a member of many professional societies including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
